let it snow let it snow...

It finally got cold enough to snow. It finally snowed enough to accumulate on the ground. It finally stayed cold enough to stay for a couple of days. It finally warmed up a little so the snow would be packing snow when the kids got home from school. The girls went out into the backyard as soon as they got home from school, and started creating!





And Abby got out the sand pails and made a 'snow castle'!

another one off to fairyland

Abby has finally lost her second tooth! They don't seem to want to fall out of her mouth. This one has been loose for what seems like forever, and had caused quite a bit of pain the last couple of weeks for her. Her adult tooth was impatient about coming in, started to erupt right behind the baby tooth, and was almost all the way in before her poor baby tooth would give up and fall out.

Now this is her cute little smile. She makes me laugh!

Cold weather but no snow makes for a pretty boring winter. We haven't been doing very much so far this year....we have had to come up with ways to entertain ourselves. Unfortunately for Morley, this meant dressing her up in Pierre's glasses one day. She was such a good sport.



For Valentine's Day, we put cut out hearts all over the back of the girls' bedroom doors with messages on them...
'You are sweet'
'You are a good friend'
'You are a great helper'
'You are an awesome daughter'
Stuff like that. Kind of like a giant Valentine's card. They both were really happy about the notes. Pierre made us chocolate waffles for breakfast....mmmmm, they were GOOD!!!! Then for dinner, he made us this!



Talk about decadent! What a great daddy/hubby!!!

a favourite!

Over at I Heart Faces earlier this week, the theme was Favourite Face....but the photo had to have been taken during the months of December or January. I haven't been taking many pictures since the weather turned cold, so I didn't have any great shots to enter in the contest. I took this picture back at the end of September of my niece, and because I am so honest, I couldn't enter it in the favourite faces contest. But this is one of my favourite face photos I have taken this year, so I wanted to share it.

We were just waiting in line for the Ferris Wheel ride at the Ancaster Fair and I was taking goofy pictures of the my girls and their cousin, and I happened to get this shot. You just never know when you are going to get a great one!



And here it is in colour...I still can't decide which one I like better!

the season of giving

I know that it is getting a little late for Christmas pictures, but we have been having issues with our computer, and I just had to share these.

For Christmas this year, the girls decided they wanted to get each other a Christmas present. They each chose the gift to give, they each went with me to get the present, they wrapped the presents themselves, and even made cards for each other. On Christmas morning, they were SO excited about giving these presents they insisted that they be the first ones opened.

And Emma is equally excited about opening it..(it is a newer book called 'The Dork Diaries')

I love it when this time of year brings out the best in people. This 5 minutes at the beginning of the morning was the highlight of my day!

christmas eve traditions

Every year on Christmas Eve, the girls are allowed to open 1 present. Abigail has figured out that this present is always pjs....I think I was much older than 6 before I figured that out! So Christmas Eve, we headed downstairs to sit in front of the tree and watched the girls open their new Christmas pajamas...





They actually posed very nicely for me in front of the tree this year....they are usually too wired to agree to this...



Then the cookies get put out for Santa....always home made Belgian cookie!



And this year we added reading "The Night Before Christmas" together...



We also sprinkled reindeer food on the front lawn to help guide the reindeer to our house, and put a special Santa key on the front door. (we don't have a fireplace)
Then it was off to bed to try to sleep while they waited to hear sleigh bells in the middle of the night...which we did hear!!!!

the olympic spirit

On December 21st the Olympic torch came through Caledonia. We got into the spirit of the event and headed down to watch it go by!




Runners for other legs of the run in the buses driving by were shouting out the windows at Pierre about loving his face!!!






And then the torch came by and a guy stepped right in front of me as I tried to take some pictures! But I got this one!

a new game for family game night

One of the envelopes the girls opened for the 25 Days of Christmas said they could open a present under the tree! This was last week sometime, so Christmas morning was still forever away for them....they were beyond excited about it!! Of course the stipulation on the gift was that Pierre and I got to pick which gift they could open. We chose the game Jenga! What a hit! We are always in the market for a good game for family game nights. These pictures are from another night when Pierre and Emma played together and managed to get the tower up to about 36 layers! And look closely in the first picture at the very bottom layer.....the whole tower is teetering on just one block!
